Art & Science
Combining my experience in Hawaii and my own origins, I collaborated on projects about the gene code, mutation, and art, with Guylaine Poisson, professor at the University of Hawaii’s Department of Computer Science. I focused on the knots that modify deeply, but undetectably, our DNA. I translated this exploration on Lauhala for DNA Elliptical
Interpretation. I used felt forms to represent combinations of codes and
repetition and sprayed them on my Algerian family carpet . The installation symbolized Prion disease which creates the mutation known as “mad cow disease.” It is Prion Felt Transmutation.
